چکیده

In surface reconstruction from slice samples (typical in medical imaging, coordinate measurement machines, stereolithography, etc.) the available methods attack the geometrical and topological aspects or a combinationof these. Topological methods classify the events occurred in the 2-manifold between two consecutive slices. Geometrical methods synthesize the surface based on local proximity of contours in consecutive slices. Many of these methods work with modifications of Voronoi Delaunay (VD) techniques, applied on slices i and i + 1. Superimposed 2D Voronoi Diagrams V Di and V Di+1 (used in surface reconstruction) present topological problems if, for example, a site of V Di lies on an site or an edge of V Di+1. The usual treatment of this problem in literature is to apply a geometrical disturbance to either V Di or V Di+1, thus eliminating the degeneracy. Recent works seek to quantify the amount of the disturbance applied in relation to the probability distribution of the event “change in the topology of VD”. In this article, in contrast, virtual disturbances are proposed and implemented, which allow for the application of subsequent steps of the algorithm at hand (in this case, tetrahedra construction for surface reconstruction) regardless of to the geometrical exception. Tetrahedra (or any other downstream constructs) can then be instantiated as per non-degenerate conditions. Although this method is applied for surface reconstruction, it gives insight as to how to circumvent degeneracies in procedures based on VD methods.

Unsupervised Reconstruction of a Patient-Specific Surface Model of a Proximal Femur from Calibrated Fluoroscopic Images

In this paper, we present an unsupervised 2D/3D reconstruction scheme combining a parameterized multiple-component geometrical model and a point distribution model, and show its application to automatically reconstruct a surface model of a proximal femur from a limited number of calibrated fluoroscopic images with no user intervention at all. The parameterized multiple-component geometrical mod...

Surface Reconstruction of Defective Point Clouds Based on Dual Off-Set Gradient Functions

Surface reconstruction is an interesting and challenging task in extensively applied fields including rapid prototype manufacturing, computer vision, virtual reality and computer aided design (CAD). A typical reconstruction procedure begins with scanning, in which the point data are sampled from physical objects by digitizing measurement systems (such as laser-range scanners and hand-held digit...

3D Reconstruction Using Cubic Bezier Spline Curves and Active Contours (Case Study)

Introduction 3D reconstruction of an object from its 2D cross-sections (slices) has many applications in different fields of sciences such as medical physics and biomedical engineering. In order to perform 3D reconstruction, at first, desired boundaries at each slice are detected and then using a correspondence between points of successive slices surface of desired object is reconstructed. Individual virtual phantom reconstruction for organ dosimetry based on standard available phantoms

Background: In nuclear medicine application often it is required to use computational methods for evaluation of organ absorbed dose. Monte Carlo simulation and phantoms have been used in many works before. The shape, size and volume in organs are varied, and this variation will produce error in dose calculation if no correction is applied. Materials and Methods: A computational framewo...

Removal of Diazinon from Aqueous Solutions in Batch Systems Using Cu-modified Sodalite zeolite: An Application of Response Surface Methodology

In this work, perlite was used as a low-cost source of Si and Al in the synthesis of sodalite zeolite using hydrothermal synthesis method. Cu2O nanoparticles were coated on a bed of sodalite zeolite and used as an adsorbent for removal of diazinon from aqueous solutions. To analyze the process, a significant variable .i.e. removal efficiency (%) of diazinon and three dependent parameters as the...
